Figuring out what you need isn't easy. We've done the ground work for you — from food and water, to light and shelter, and even a few luxuries

No matter the type of emergency or disaster, there are certain key components you will need to survive, escape, and prosper. Water, food, shelter, light, and heat. And a comfort item or two. Some of these issues can be essentially tricky if you  live in urban & suburban areas, where space, TK and TK. We've taken a special eye to those residents (so much of America, actually), which have traditoanlly gotten short thrift when it comes to "prepping" and disaster preparedness in general.

 

As you go through, consider you may need to stock some of these items at home (Home shelter); in a kit and/or vehicle in case you've got to leave (Evacuation & transit); and in a second, safe location (Away shelter). For some essential items, consider buying multiples to have in each location or situation.
